This wedding was planned with family in mind.  Mattie and Josh, and their three children, focused on having a fun, family-friendly event and they definitely succeeded.  From the cotton candy, to the popcorn machine, and huge bounce house, there was no shortage of fun for the kids and adults!

Each detail of this day was planned by Josh and Mattie.  I don't think their day could've been more personalized, and truly representative of their relationship.  Even when a storm rolled in, no one seemed to mind, and they danced the night away barefoot in the puddles.  I had such a blast being part of this special day in their lives, and look forward to watching their family grow.

Grace - Newborn Session - Hanover, PA http://www.rachelmummertphotography.com/blog/2018/1/grace---newborn-session---hanover-pa Say hello to Grace.  The most perfect little all-American girl there is.  Grace's mom, Kate, and I go way back to the good old high school student council days.  So when I ran into her recently and saw she was pregnant, I was so happy for her and her husband, Jared.  Kate is our PA State Representative serving the 169th legislative district, and it was no surprise that she brought along a beautiful American flag scarf to the session.  Also being born just before Christmas gave us the opportunity to sneak a little Christmas spirit in.  I loved every minute of this session, including all of the special touches we incorporated to honor her family legacy.

Casey - Fresh 48 http://www.rachelmummertphotography.com/blog/2017/12/casey---fresh-48 The first few days, let alone hours, when your baby is born are a complete blur.  I remember very little from the first few days with my two little ones, although we took a multitude of videos and photos in the hospital.  Avery was born quickly, and we were in the hospital all but 30 hours.  Olivia was a surprise c-section, and while we were in the hospital for 3 days, between the pain meds and the inability to move around much, I didn't get the photos I had hoped for.  Fresh 48 sessions, are something I have always wanted to offer, but have never had the opportunity, until now.  And I am in LOVE.

Say hello to my newest nephew Casey Wayne, born at Hanover Hospital on 12/27.  My brother and sister-in-law were kind enough to let me bring my camera to the hospital for some raw, true-life, hospital photos.  My family has always been a good sport, allowing me to practice on them and their little ones.  I am always that camera-hauling aunt running around at family functions and on vacations.  So after snuggling this new little guy (I have some serious baby fever), I was able to capture their pure love and joy for their new addition, their fourth boy.

This is real post-birth life in the hospital.  You are there, waiting to go home, but taking your time studying every feature and detail of the person you waited 9 months to meet.  Soak it in, relish in the quiet moments, and hold on to those memories.

Welcome to the world Casey!  We are so excited to add another to our crazy bunch.  You are loved.

Interested in a Fresh 48 session of your own?  Contact me for details and information on these amazing true-life photos.

The next chapter http://www.rachelmummertphotography.com/blog/2017/9/the-next-chapter When did you realize what you loved to do?  What your career should be?  Where you were headed in life?  It took me many years to find my way.  I spent quite a bit of time in college trying to figure out what I was supposed to be, and after a few majors, I ended up with a degree I had no passion for, in an attempt to get myself on track with where I THOUGHT I needed to be.  After a very successful early career in business and human resources, I left my comfy desk job and salary, just four years ago, to pursue the path I knew I would end up on - being a mom.  It was the one role I ALWAYS knew I wanted to take on.

While being Avery and Olivia's mom has always been enough for me, I have been very fortunate to be able to build my business (mostly during their nap time!), and find a true passion over the last four years.  I have put my blood, sweat, and tears (literally!) into cultivating and growing my small photography business.  After so much training, education, practice, and work, I am super elated to announce I am opening my very own studio!  I cannot even express my excitement, joy, and amazement, so I will just say MY HEART IS EXPLODING!!!!

Soooo say hello to the new home of Rachel Mummert Photography!

It doesn't look like much right now, I know, but give me a few weeks, and we will transform this space into a place you will be proud to visit, and happy to bring your families to.

But first, I have to gush a little...

It seems like just last week when I was walking into my first photography course, super intimidated.  I never said one peep during the whole semester. I never asked a question.  I left knowing how to use the basic functions of my camera, but more so with a drive to educate myself further.  It's funny when I tell people the story now, but everyone's journey starts somewhere.  Mine started the day I decided to get out and learn the camera.  It started with my drive to know how to take photos of my own kids.

Thank you to everyone who has made this possible - my husband who has supported this dream from day one, even when I was really just learning (um....let's be honest I wasn't very good) and leaving home for all day weddings when the baby was only a few weeks old.  He is the one that sees the tears of frustration at times, builds me whatever crazy backdrop/floor/prop/shelf I need, and fixes my darn pulley system every time I break it.  And a huge thank you to our parents who watch our little munchkins on evenings and weekends (and Fridays!) while I have been working and making this career a reality.  We lean on you a lot, and that whole "village to raise a child" thing?  Well yea, that's real.

Ok so, what does this mean for you?

- MORE SPACE!  I am going from one room of 200 square feet, to a huge 800 square foot space.  For those of you who came to my home studio, in the very early months of opening, this will be a big change.  I remember my very first clients were sitting on an actual bed in my spare bedroom!  How crazy to look back on the old times.  This is enough to be excited about!  But there's more...

- A waiting area with comfortable seating and activities for your kids.  So, when your older sibling is waiting for the 2 hour newborn session to finish, we now have a place for them to wait.  And....you are also welcome to take a nap if you need to!

- A private bathroom that does not include my children's bath toys.  The home studio has been great to me, but this is a big one because now my kids can leave their undies on the floor without a mommy freak out.

- Did I mention more space?? We will be able to set up multiple sets for you before you arrive, cutting down on the time to change things up during your session.

- More flexibility with scheduling.  This is one of the main reasons we decided moving to a studio was a good fit right now.  I am currently working around my little one's nap schedules and routines.  With this change, I will be able to schedule afternoon and later evening appointments that were not possible when we were shooting in the room next door to my napping baby.

So, in just a few short weeks I will be very happy to welcome you all to my very own 800 square feet of heaven at 300 Frederick Street in Hanover.  I look forward to making many more memories there with everyone who helped me get here.  I have the most wonderful, loyal, and special clients anyone could ask for.  Working with your families is what makes me want to work so hard.  Seeing your children grow, holding your brand new babies, and capturing your special moments is everything for me.  I hope you know how much I love what I do, and I cannot wait to bring you a more spacious and comfortable space to visit with me.

Want to follow our build and studio design?  Make sure to follow me on Instagram @rachelmummertphotography and on Facebook at www.facebook.com/rachelmummertphotography to see all of the behind the scenes details before we open our doors in the next few months.  My over excitement will be quite apparent ;)

Patrick and Krystal | General Potter Farm | State College, PA Wedding Photographer http://www.rachelmummertphotography.com/blog/2017/6/patrick-and-krystal-general-potter-farm-state-college-pa-wedding-photographer I met Krystal and Pat over a year ago, when we first got together for coffee to chat about their upcoming wedding.  I remember so clearly how Krystal mentioned she was a decisive planner, and once she had her mind made up on a decision, that was that!  I appreciated her organization, as I myself am also a planner by nature.  I knew we would hit it off right away.

These two met in college at Penn State University, and truly bleed the blue and white.  Their day was scattered with reminders of their time at PSU, and much of our morning was spent on campus for their first look and portraits.  The campus is just incredible, and I could've spent the entire day there just finding little spots for photos.  But we hit a few of their most treasured memories, including the exact spot where they met for their very first date!

Happy Birthday - Celebrate with me! http://www.rachelmummertphotography.com/blog/2017/5/happy-birthday---celebrate-with-me I'm turning the big 33 today!  So far I have spent my day getting the kids up, dressed, fed, and running Avery to preschool, where I was the visiting parent.  Then it was back home for lunch, play time, and finally nap time (Ahhh...).  After naps we will shove in a super quick dinner, and then it's off to swimming class.  By the time we get back home, it's baths then off to bed for my kids.  In between it all, I am answering emails, posting sneak peeks from sessions, editing, and (if I'm lucky), grabbing a coffee!  Birthdays for moms are usually very much like any other day - BUSY!

This morning though, as I was listening to Olivia stir around in her bed at 6AM and hoping she would fall back to sleep for just a few more minutes, I thought about how lucky I am, and how thankful I am, for my family, our health, and our happy life.  It's not always perfect (no family is!), but my life is truly what I had always envisioned it to be.  I am living my dream in many ways.

Tonight I might celebrate with a glass of wine after the kids go to bed, but for today I thought I might give back.  I believe we should take care of other moms, and look out for each other, because mom-hood is seriously challenging.  So for my birthday this year, I am going to share my gift with another mom, and I'm asking you to help me find her!

Please take a moment to nominate a deserving mom for a complimentary family mini session.  This 30 minute session is on me, and will be held at Codorus State Park in Hanover.  The session must be used in 2017.  To nominate your mom friend and her family for this session, all you have to do is...

- Pop on over to my Facebook page and "like" the post pinned to the top (the same post you clicked to get to this blog!)- Facebook - Rachel Mummert Photography

- Tag the mom you want to nominate in the comments section of that post

- Tell me WHY this mom should have the free mini session.  Maybe they have had an especially rough year, lost a loved one, never had photos done, are the most awesomely kind family you have ever met, etc.  You know why she rocks, so tell me!  If the reason you want to nominate someone is private, just send me a private message with her story, and I promise to keep it between us!  Brag on your mom friend!

Oh and there are some rules of course...

- Please only nominate ONE mom.  I know you love all of your mom friends, but pick the one that really needs and deserves this the most.

- The session must be used in 2017 and will only be at Codorus State Park, so please only nominate someone local to our area.

- The mini session will last 30 minutes and only includes the winner and her immediate family (her spouse/partner and children)

- You cannot nominate yourself.  Sorry!

- Only comments and likes on the original pinned post on my Facebook page will count, so if you are liking and commenting on a shared post I will not see it.

- I reserve the right to disqualify anyone who is not playing fair, not following rules, or just generally not being kind.  Be nice folks!

- Winner will be chosen by Rachel Mummert Photography and notified via Facebook.  The nomination period ends at noon on 5/9/17.

- This contest is not in any way sponsored by Facebook, Instagram, or any other company other than Rachel Mummert Photography.  The mini session cannot be returned or exchanged and holds no cash value.

So there you have it!  I can't wait to read about all of these amazing moms!  Thanks for your help and happy birthday to me!

What's A Cake Smash Anyway? http://www.rachelmummertphotography.com/blog/2017/2/cake-smash-anyway

The popularity of a "cake smash", celebrating baby's first year, has grown tremendously.  In fact, I probably do more smash sessions than any other kind right now.  Cake smashes were not something my 80's mother would have ever dreamed of.  Baby me, shoving cake in my face, was reserved for home, and maybe if I was lucky, my actual birthday party.  This is likely because the professional photographer of the 80's was not someone you saw multiple times a year.  Family portraits, or even annual portraits, were not as common, accessible, or affordable as they are today.  So with the opportunity to have more professional photos done, comes the opportunity to dream up some pretty fun themes, props, and events, like the cake smash!

Now I know not everyone gets it.  Trust me, my grandmother has questioned this idea more than once.  She just doesn't see what is so special about a baby covered in cake, and why on earth someone would pay for photos of it.  Well let me tell you what I tell her.  The cake smash is a celebration.  No baby continues to grow at the speed they do during the first year!  So when you look at that little bundle on day one, you cannot even fathom the wild, walking, bundle of energy that they will be on day 365.  The cake smash celebrates your child's milestone of development and growth.  It is an opportunity to let them let loose and party it up, as only a toddler knows how!

More importantly though than the celebration your child gets to have while shoving the most sugary of treats into their mouth at a tremendous pace, is the celebration of the parents.  YOU MADE IT!  The first year is an unbelievable challenge.  Whether you have one child, or more, baby's first year is sure to shake up your family dynamic in a way that you never imagined.  I know this, because I am living it, for the second time!

When Avery was handed to me, I had no idea what was in store for us over the next 12 months.  He was a perfect angel, until he developed colic, acid reflux, and a complete aversion to sleep that lasted through his first birthday.  I was shocked, and at times a little devastated, that motherhood was not at all what I originally expected it to be.  I was ashamed for thinking that at the time, but now I look back and realize that it is totally normal to question your role, your baby's actions, and your new life.  I mean seriously, someone handed you a human and sent you on home without anything more than a "good luck" and a packet about how often baby should poo.  The first year is SCARY!

But the first year is also unbelievably amazing and eye opening.  As a parent, you learn what true unconditional love is when you sleep sitting up in the rocker because your baby has an ear infection and can't be laid down.  You learn how to work with your partner to make the best decision together for the welfare of your child.  You are vomited on, scratched with tiny razor fingernails, bitten by brand new teeth, and most definitely find yourself cleaning up poo more than once.  You wipe boogies, comfort the sadness, and relinquish sleep.  But you also get the first smile, are surrounded by giggles and joy, and watch as your tiny human turns into a person with a personality and innocence that makes you so proud.

The first year is a lot of things.  I like to think of the cake smash as a culmination of those things- the joy, the sadness, the sleeplessness, the fear, the guilt, and the love.  So while your little one is smashing away at their cake (or crying because they hate being dirty), try to sit back and take it all in. Give yourself a pat on the back. They are only little once.  They will only be one for a split second.  CELEBRATE that you made it!  It only gets easier from here, right?  ;)

Are you ready to celebrate your little one by smashing some cake?  Or maybe you prefer the cleaner one year old photo version (no judgement from me!).  Contact me for more details about my milestone sessions.

Surprise Proposal - Jordan and Emily - Hershey Park http://www.rachelmummertphotography.com/blog/2016/12/surprise-proposal---jordan-and-emily---hershey-park Oh where to even start with this one!  A month or so ago, one of my very dearest cousins contacted me about a surprise proposal to his girlfriend of many years, Emily.  Jordan grew up right across the street from me, and as his older cousin, I babysat him and watched him grow up.  He met Emily in middle school, and they have been a couple ever since.  Enduring all of high school and college at different schools, the ups and downs of teenage life, and entering into adulthood together, has not always been a walk in the park.  They have moved from Pennsylvania to Florida, to Georgia, as they continue to build their careers and life together.

We were all waiting for years now for Jordan to finally pop the question, so when he told me I was in on the big secret, AND would be able to witness it as their photographer, I was pretty excited.  After deciding on Hershey Park Christmas Candylane as the spot, there were a few kinks to work out with the lighting and timing, but Jordan was able to pull it off.  Hershey Park did an amazing job helping to plan and coordinate the engagement, and the Hershey Kiss even got in on the fun.  Both families were present to witness Jordan get down on one knee, and of course, Emily said YES!  Actually, I think she said "it's about time"!

Congratulations to Emily and Jordan.  Now you can begin the fun journey that is wedding planning!

Griest Wedding - The Lodge at Liberty Forge - Mechanicsburg, PA http://www.rachelmummertphotography.com/blog/2016/11/griest-wedding---lodge-at-liberty-forge---mechanicsburg-pa Lindsey and Brady were high school sweethearts who just kept the love going.  I met them a few months ago to chat over coffee, and I could immediately tell how much they loved each other and wanted to spend their lives together.  These two put family first, and mentioned that the majority of the wedding guests would be from their very big families.  It was so fun to watch these families come together and celebrate such a beautiful couple.

The ceremony and reception were both held at The Lodge at Liberty Forge in Mechanicsburg, PA.  Lindsey's lace gown (J&B Bridals and Tuxedos), silver shoes, and the beautiful teal bridesmaid dresses were the perfect selections for a fall wedding.  I especially loved her rhinestone and lace garter.

Maggard Wedding - Littlestown, PA http://www.rachelmummertphotography.com/blog/2016/10/maggard-wedding---littlestown-pa The one thing I love so much about Brad and Rachel is that they are 100% true to themselves and their style.  I met them both for their engagement session a few months ago, and they hopped out of the car in matching camo t-shirts, which gave me a hint as to their wedding theme and their personalities!  They are both somewhat quiet at times, and Brad tells me that Rachel doesn't like to have her photo taken (although she is stunningly beautiful, and I could photograph her all day long!).  But as a couple they are perfectly in sync, and meant to be, and being a part of their day was a lot of fun.

I began my morning with the ladies at Gigi & Shearers Hair and Color Spa where they were getting hair and make-up.  The bridal party was set for the day with lots of coffee, danishes, and wine.

Maggard Wedding - Littlestown, PA - Getting ready photos - Rachel Mummet Photography The wedding ceremony and reception were held at a private residence in a rustic barn.  The rain moved the ceremony indoors, but the rustic barn was just beautiful.  The old wood floors were the perfect accent for some detail shots.

Parrish Wedding - The Lodges at Gettysburg http://www.rachelmummertphotography.com/blog/2016/10/parrish-wedding---the-lodges-at-gettysburg About a year ago, I met Rodney and Bethany when they came to me for newborn photos of their baby girl.  So I was very excited when I heard they were tying the knot this year, AND at one of my very favorite venues!  I was married at The Lodges at Gettysburg in 2012, so it holds a special place in my heart, and what better way to begin my first wedding back after maternity leave!

These two are such a special couple. I have known Bethany's family (and a large majority of her extended family!) for most of my life.  It has been so fun to be a part of all of their major milestones over the last few years, and adding this wedding to that list was a true honor.  It is so apparent that they are completely in love with each other, and their little girl is a product of that love and commitment.

Bethany with her little princess, just taking a moment to enjoy their time together before the ceremony.

My obsession with Bethany's gown (David's Bridal) began right when we took it out of the bag.  That skirt!!!  Oh my goodness!  Paired with some sparkling accessories, she looked just like a princess herself.

Project Baby Girl - Our Nursery http://www.rachelmummertphotography.com/blog/2016/7/project-baby-girl---our-nursery So it's the day before my due date, and no sign of baby girl.  I think she is in there for the long haul at this point, even though I swore early on in my pregnancy that she wanted to come out early.  I had more contractions in the first 8 months than I have had in this entire 9th month.  At this point, I'm getting pretty impatient, but one of the projects I really wanted to complete before she arrived was the nursery.  I can say we are *almost* finished, so I thought it was time to share the results of our hard work.

I should start by saying that we built our house 3 years ago and there are still rooms that I have not touched as far as paint or decorating.  I mean they look as bare as the day we moved in.  But, when it comes to doing just one room at a time, I usually take it on full force, and that was definitely the case for our nurseries.

We decided to keep Avery in his current room, and give baby girl what used to be my office.  Unfortunately, because Avery got the big room, and my studio is also upstairs in a bedroom, baby is getting the smallest room.  It is about 11x12 max (maybe smaller?), and odd-shaped, so we did not have a ton of options when it came to organizing furniture and such.  Also, poor little girl is the only one without a walk-in closet.  She really got the short end of the stick here!

The room was a complete blank slate before we started, and the very first step was the linens.  I always like to start with the fabric in the room because matching fabric to a specific paint color is a nightmare, but mixing a custom paint color is easy.  After looking at a million different nursery bedding options, I decided that nothing was matching the vision or color scheme I had in mind.  I had been Pinteresting non-stop, and really wanted mint and lavender with white furniture.  So off mom and I went to Joann Fabrics to find the fabric for the cribskirt and pillow.

Once I had my fabric, I called in "The Paint Lady".  Now let me just tell you about this amazing service that Sherwin Williams offers.  They have a wonderful interior designer at our local store, who will come out to your home and pick your paint, completely free of charge.  Cheryl has been to my home several times and has chosen all of our colors.  She has an incredible eye and easily matches fabrics, which I sometimes have trouble doing myself.  This time around, she even custom mixed our lavender paint to match the fabric swatch I had chosen.  So as much as I want to share a wall color name with you, I can't!  It is a special blend :)

See my hubby hard at work?  He gets roped into doing most of the work with these projects.  He definitely got into this one with me though after we started to pull the pieces together.  I think his least favorite part of the whole project was installing the amazing chandelier.

When we found out we were having a girl, I just HAD to have a chandelier.  I did a lot of searching online for nursery chandeliers, but when it came down to it, I wanted something all crystal and we found it right at our local Home Depot.  The ceiling medallion is from Amazon, and we ended up not needing to paint it since it matched our ceiling so well.

Chris built quite a few pieces for the room, like these bookshelves.  The back is a simple board, and for the front we used pieces of trim from Lowe's.  We painted them white to match the furniture in the room.  Here's the before and after...

Now I mentioned the room is small a oddly-shaped, which created a little bit of an issue for our furniture arrangement.  I had originally wanted to do a huge collage above the crib, but that required a blank wall which we just did not have.  In the end, our crib ended up going in a corner, which then created a whole new issue about what to put above it.  Here's what we came up with as a solution...

Chris built the crib canopy out of more trim pieces (they match the bookshelves), and some other decorative wood we found at Lowe's.  Behind the wood is a simple curtain rod where we hung the sheers.  The sheer panels are from Bed Bath and Beyond, and are the same ones we used for the curtains in the room.

The fabric that we purchased was used for the crib skirt, pillow, and curtain tieback.  My mom is one of the only people I know who can still sew.  It's a dying art.  I found a pattern on Pinterest (pattern link here) and we modified it slightly to get a four ruffle skirt.  The matching pillow is actually going to go in our rocker (if it ever gets delivered!).

So since my crib ended up in a corner, I needed a new spot for my collage wall, because let's face it, I'm a newborn photographer and I have big plans for this little girl's photos!  The original frames were white and purchased at Hobby Lobby.  Whenever you do a collage wall, you want to make sure you have the layout perfect before you start hanging.  I spent a lot of time working on the spacing on the floor, before we ever even attempted the wall.  I also decided which frames would be mint and which would be white before we hung them.

The purple paper butterflies are from SimplyChicLily on Etsy.  I absolutely LOVE how this turned out.  I can't wait to fill these frames with beautiful photos of our little girl.

Another favorite piece is our vintage repurposed dresser from a local store, Pieces.  We just couldn't find anything this detailed and girly in all of the nursery furniture options, and this piece really just fits the room perfectly with it's girly details.  The mirror is from Kohls, and was originally cream, but I repainted it white to match the dresser and frames.

The curtain tieback is made from the same material as the crib skirt and pillow.  My mom just randomly came up with this design as she was making the other pieces and I just LOVE how it turned out.  I told her she should sell them!

And lastly we have the closet.  Chris laughed at me when I said I wanted to paint the inside of the closet to match the room, but I think it turned out nicely in the end.  As you can see, our baby girl is already blessed with quite the wardrobe thanks to our family and friends.  I also found these super cute dividers from Gina Marie Originals on Etsy.

So there you have it!  There are still a few things I need to find a home for, and my chair has yet to be delivered, but we are basically finished.  Now it's just a waiting game to see when the little girl will make her appearance.  Thank you to my hubby and mom for their help in pulling this vision together.  It was quite a project!

Mother's Day http://www.rachelmummertphotography.com/blog/2016/5/mothers-day Mother's Day is a very special day this year, as it also happens to fall on my birthday.  I am sure this also makes my husband happy, as he only has to plan one celebration instead of two.  He gets off easy every few years when this happens.

As a mother, I have a lot to be thankful for this year.  I have an amazing two year old munchkin, who I get to spend every day with, and a sweet baby girl on the way.  I feel blessed to have the opportunity to spend my days raising my babies, while working during naptime, evenings, and weekends to help support our family with my photography.  I have the best of both worlds, in my opinion, a working mom and a stay-at-home mom.

Because I specialize in newborn and child photography, I also get to meet so many wonderful moms!  I hear wild birth stories, swap tips and advice, and learn about each family from the perspective of both brand new and seasoned moms.  I have met moms with all different beliefs and backgrounds.  I learn from each one, and love talking to them as I capture memories they will get to keep for a lifetime.

I have kind of made it a little tradition to look back over my year of sessions and pull out one photo of each mom I had the opportunity to photograph.  Not every mom steps in front of the camera, but for those that do, I pick my favorite moment to share each Mother's Day.  So here are the 45 moms who shared their beauty with me this past year.

I have enjoyed meeting each and every one of you, and your families.  As I looked back, I spent a bit of time reviewing each session while I found your photos.  I had some little chuckles to myself as I remembered some of the hilarious moments, and some smiles as I recalled the warm ones.  I hope you all have a wonderful Mother's Day, and get a break to reflect on your own mom-journey.  It's a wild ride, but worth the trip!

Newborn Session - {Logan} http://www.rachelmummertphotography.com/blog/2016/4/newborn-session---logan Sleepy babies are always the goal when we are doing newborn photos, and Logan did not disappoint.  He was wonderful and sleepy throughout the entire session.  I attribute this to him being a fourth child in a household filled with older siblings!

When photographing baby boys, many parents request blues and grays, which works beautifully for me because these are some of my favorites as well.  I also love incorporating neutral pieces into the sets like this adorable slouchy hat from Just Hatched Designs.

We kept the blue-theme going throughout the session, so all of Logan's photos would tie together.

His parents had one special request to incorporate some super hero's into a photo to match his nursery at home.  I was so excited to see these Itty Bittys from Hallmark, and knew just what I wanted to do with them.  This is my favorite shot from the session.

More cuteness...

Finally finished up with some photos with Mom and Dad.  Love the joy on their faces in every shot.

Thank you for sharing Logan with me and congratulations on such an adorable little guy!

Newborn Session - {Nolan} | Hanover, PA Newborn Photographer http://www.rachelmummertphotography.com/blog/2016/4/newborn-session---nolan-hanover-pa-newborn-photographer Coming back from my newborn workshop, I was very excited to see the first of three little newborn boys who would be visiting me in March.  I find it pretty funny how I seem to get "gender waves" throughout the year, and will have multiple boy or girl sessions in a row.  As of right now, I have only had newborn boys in the studio since last year!

Nolan's mom and I had been planning his session for quite some time.  I could tell right away that she was very organized and prepared for his session.  She booked quite a few months ago, so it was a long wait until little Nolan made his appearance for us.

There was a special outfit that mom and dad wanted to have Nolan photographed in, so we incorporated the teal, gray, and white from his nursery.

This deep blue is another one of my favorites for newborn boys.  I just love how it isn't too dark or too bright.  Perfectly masculine!

Dad had a special request since he is a local high school football coach.  And lucky for us, I even had his team colors available!  This pose has become one of my most popular for little boys.  The parents' hands never left baby either while it was taken.

We ended with some amazingly sweet parent shots.  Mom and Dad with baby Nolan...

Thank you for sharing your newest addition with me.  Nolan was a complete sweetheart!

Easter Mini Sessions http://www.rachelmummertphotography.com/blog/2016/3/easter-mini-sessions A month or so ago, one of my favorite clients asked me about Easter mini sessions.  It was not something I had been planning to do, but I am so glad she mentioned it to me!  Easter minis were a blast, and the adorable spring outfits just had me loving every single shot.  I will definitely be making these an annual event.

Keeping the set really simple was important to me, as I love the focus of my images to be on the child.  I kept the backdrop and carpet neutral, and let those fun spring colors really pop!  With a few added Easter eggs, we were ready to go, and these kids came prepared with smiles.

As you can see, these sessions were so fun!!!  I'm already thinking about next year's event.  Interested in a similar portrait session?  Contact me for details and to schedule.

I was lucky enough to see Camdyn again at my Christmas Mini Sessions last November, and now for her first birthday cake smash.  It has been quite a year, and I know her parents can't believe how quickly she has grown.  Her adorable red hair and blue eyes will always make her a standout for me.

We started her session with some portraits in this adorable rose romper, before digging in to the cake.  I love the color combo her parents chose.  And as you can see, Camdyn just loved her cake!!!

Happy Birthday Camdyn!  I have loved watching you grow and can't wait to see you again!

Newborn Workshop http://www.rachelmummertphotography.com/blog/2016/3/newborn-workshop I am super self-critical of everything that I do, and I tend to always compare myself to others.  It is a bad habit, I know!  I'm working on it!  But this constant need to improve leads me to wonderful experiences like the Nicole Smith Photography Newborn Workshop I attended in Philadelphia last weekend.  I signed up after realizing that it would be very unlikely that Nicole would be back in this area anytime soon (she is from Nebraska!), and knowing that my own little baby is coming along very soon and will be keeping me at home for awhile.

I was a bit nervous at first, being that I am in early in my photography career, but each and every photographer made me feel so welcome.  Learning from and alongside these ladies was a true honor.  Some of them have been in business for over five years, and some just starting out, but the beauty of the workshop is that it really didn't make a difference.  Nicole was so willing to share her knowledge for photographers of all levels.

My goal was to walk away from the experience having hopefully picked up a few tips to bring back to my own business, but I walked away with much more.  I am very excited to incorporate many of the new skills I have acquired as I continue with my passion of photographing newborns.  Here are some of my favorite shots I was able to capture during the two day workshop.

Daysha and Dan's Gettysburg Wedding http://www.rachelmummertphotography.com/blog/2016/2/daysha-and-dans-gettysburg-wedding Daysha and Dan contacted me a few weeks ago after their wedding photographer fell through. They were hoping to find someone on very short notice, and luckily for both of us, I had their date free!  While I did not get to meet them personally before the wedding, I felt like I walked away from their day knowing all that really mattered - They are people of strong faith, who are madly in love with each other!

One of my favorite moments of their day, was the special prayer they said together before the ceremony.  Dan was blindfolded, and Daysha was behind a wall to make sure they did not see each other, but they held hands and had a special moment before actually seeing each other for the first time.

Their ceremony was held at Gettysburg Foursquare Church in downtown Gettysburg.  Dan and Daysha had family from Alaska and Maine come to Pennsylvania for their wedding.

I think one of the most fun facts about these two is that between them, they have five children!  These adorable kids range in age from 4 to 11 and were all part of the wedding.  I loved seeing the boys playing together, and their daughter helping Daysha prepare.

The reception was held at The Gettysburg Hotel, and while guests made their way to the party, Dan and Daysha stopped outside the church for a few more photos.  Afterwards, they took a short private walk together through the square to the hotel.

And some final photos before they entered the reception and celebrating joining their two families together.

Thank you Dan and Daysha for allowing me to be part of your day.  It was wonderful to get to know you, and I wish you all the best in your lives together.
